How to Add Geofeed to ARIN — Step-by-Step Guide

Adding Geofeed to ARIN

ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers) supports geofeed through the Comments field on NetRange and NetBlock objects. While ARIN doesn't have a dedicated geofeed attribute like RIPE, the standard RFC 8805 remarks format is fully supported and recognized by all major geolocation databases.

Prerequisites

  • An ARIN Online account with authority over the relevant NetRange/NetBlock
  • A geofeed CSV file hosted on a publicly accessible HTTPS URL
  • Your IP prefix must be registered in ARIN's Whois database

Need a geofeed file? Use our free Geofeed Generator to create one instantly.

Step 1: Log In to ARIN Online

  1. Go to ARIN Online
  2. Log in with your ARIN credentials
  3. Navigate to Your RecordsResources

Step 2: Find Your Network Object

  1. Locate the NetRange or NetBlock you want to update
  2. Click on the network to view its details
  3. Click "Modify" or "Edit"

Step 3: Add Geofeed to the Comments Field

In the Comments (or Public Comments) field, add the following line:

Geofeed https://yourdomain.com/.well-known/geofeed.csv
💡 Important: The format must be exactly Geofeed (capital G) followed by a space and the HTTPS URL. This is the RFC 8805 standard format that geolocation databases look for.

Step 4: Submit the Changes

  1. Review your changes
  2. Submit the modification request
  3. ARIN will process the update (usually within minutes for comment changes)

Step 5: Verify

Check your Whois record to confirm the comment has been added:

whois -h whois.arin.net 192.0.2.0

You should see your geofeed URL in the comments section. Allow 24-72 hours for geolocation databases to update.

Alternative: ARIN's GeoIP Correction Form

In addition to geofeed, ARIN provides a GeoIP correction process that can be used alongside geofeed for faster results.
