What is RPKI?
Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI) is a security framework that allows network operators to cryptographically verify the origin of BGP route announcements. By creating ROA (Route Origin Authorization) records, you specify which AS numbers are authorized to announce your IP prefixes.
Why Do You Need an RPKI API Key?
When you lease your IPv4 addresses through IPv4.center, your lessees will need ROA records for their BGP announcements. With an RPKI API key, we can automatically create and manage ROA records when lessees add AS numbers to their partitions.
Without an RPKI key, ROA management must be done manually through the RIPE NCC portal.
Step-by-Step: Creating Your RPKI API Key
Step 1: Log in to RIPE NCC Access
- Go to my.ripe.net
- Log in with your RIPE NCC Access credentials
- You must be associated with an LIR (Local Internet Registry) that holds the IP resources
Step 2: Navigate to RPKI Dashboard
- From the main dashboard, click on "RPKI" in the left sidebar or top navigation
- You will see the RPKI Dashboard showing your hosted and non-hosted resources
Step 3: Go to API Keys
- In the RPKI section, look for "API Keys" or "Manage API Keys"
- Click on it to see existing keys or create a new one
Step 4: Create a New API Key
- Click "Create API Key" or "Generate New Key"
- Give your key a descriptive name (e.g., "IPv4Center Integration")
- The key will be displayed — copy and save it securely, as it may not be shown again
Step 5: Add to IPv4.center
- Go to your lease listing on IPv4.center
- In the RIR Credentials section, enter the RPKI API key
- Save the credential — we'll validate it automatically
Important Notes
- The RPKI API key is separate from the RIPE Database REST API authentication
- The key uses the
ncc-api-authorizationheader for RPKI operations - You can create multiple API keys and revoke them at any time
- If you don't have access to the RPKI section, contact your LIR administrator
