Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ASN sponsorship agreement?
Formally called the "Independent Assignment Request and Maintenance Agreement", it is a contract between a sponsoring LIR and an End User. Under this agreement, the LIR requests independent Internet number resources — such as an ASN — from the RIR on behalf of the End User and maintains the registration for the duration of the contract. RIPE NCC requires a signed copy of this agreement before assigning independent resources to non-members.
What is a sponsoring LIR and why do I need one?
Organizations that are not RIPE NCC members cannot request an ASN or PI resources directly. A Sponsoring LIR is a RIPE NCC member that submits the request on your behalf, acts as the administrative contact, and keeps the registration up to date — usually in exchange for an annual maintenance fee defined in this agreement.
What information do I need to generate the agreement?
You need the sponsoring LIR's legal name, registered address, trade register details, and representative name, plus the End User's company details, registration number, contact email, and authorized signer. The administration and maintenance fees are optional — you can leave them blank and fill them in by hand on the printed document.
What does RIPE NCC require for an ASN assignment?
RIPE policy requires the End User to have a unique routing policy — in practice, the network is expected to be multihomed with at least two peering partners. The sponsoring LIR submits the request together with the signed agreement and the End User's company registration documents, and RIPE NCC verifies compliance before assigning the ASN. Our ASN registration service can handle the entire process for you.
Can this agreement be used outside the RIPE region?
The template is based on the standard RIPE NCC format, but the generator lets you select ARIN, APNIC, LACNIC, or AFRINIC and adapts the registry name accordingly. Keep in mind that each registry has its own procedures and policies for ASN sponsorship, so always verify the current requirements with the relevant RIR before signing.
Is this ASN agreement generator free?
Yes — generating and downloading the agreement is completely free and requires no account. The document is filled and previewed directly in your browser. If you need a sponsoring LIR or a complete ASN setup, IPv4Center offers these as managed services.
