Google Cloud BYOIP — Bring Your Own IP Addresses to GCP
Use your own IPv4 addresses on Google Cloud Platform via Public Advertised Prefixes. Reduce IP costs by up to 83% while leveraging Google's global network backbone.
What is GCP BYOIP?
Google Cloud Platform uses "Public Advertised Prefix (PAP)" for BYOIP. This allows you to bring your own public IPv4 address ranges and use them with GCP resources like Compute Engine, GKE, and Cloud NAT. GCP supports both regional and global advertisement modes, giving you flexibility in how your IP addresses are routed across Google's network.

GCP BYOIP Requirements
Before bringing your IP addresses to Google Cloud, ensure you meet these prerequisites.
Minimum /24 Prefix
Google Cloud requires a minimum prefix size of /24 (256 addresses). Larger prefixes up to /8 are supported.
ROA with AS396982
A Route Origin Authorization (ROA) must be created in your RIR account authorizing AS396982 (Google) to announce your prefix.
RIR Registration Verification
Your prefix must be registered with a recognized Regional Internet Registry (ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, or AFRINIC).
Google Cloud Project with Compute Engine API
An active Google Cloud project with the Compute Engine API enabled and appropriate IAM permissions for network administration.
Reverse DNS Validation
Google verifies prefix ownership via a reverse DNS (PTR) record that must resolve to a Google-specified verification token.
GCP BYOIP Setup Process
Follow these steps to bring your own IP addresses to Google Cloud Platform.
Create Public Advertised Prefix (PAP)
30 minIn the Google Cloud Console or via gcloud CLI, create a Public Advertised Prefix resource specifying your IP range and desired advertisement mode (regional or global).
Verify Prefix Ownership via ROA
2-4 hoursCreate a Route Origin Authorization in your RIR portal authorizing AS396982. The ROA must propagate through RPKI validators before Google can verify it.
Verify via Reverse DNS
1-2 hoursSet up a PTR record for a specific IP in your range pointing to the verification string provided by Google. This proves operational control of the prefix.
Provision Delegated Prefix
1-2 hoursOnce the PAP status changes to "validated", create a Public Delegated Prefix to sub-allocate your IP range for use with specific GCP resources.
Advertise from Desired Region
30 minAssign IP addresses from your delegated prefix to Compute Engine instances, forwarding rules, or Cloud NAT gateways in your target regions.
Total: Approximately 24 hours
GCP BYOIP Cost Comparison

GCP Ephemeral/Static IP
Standard GCP external IP pricing for in-use addresses (idle IPs cost more).

Benefits of BYOIP on Google Cloud
Why bringing your own IPs to GCP gives you a competitive edge.
No GCP IP Charges
Eliminate per-hour IP charges completely. BYOIP addresses are not subject to Google's standard external IP pricing.
Regional & Global Advertisement
Choose between regional mode (advertise from a single region) or global mode (anycast across multiple regions) based on your architecture needs.
Compute Engine/GKE/Cloud NAT Compatibility
BYOIP addresses work seamlessly with Compute Engine instances, GKE clusters, Cloud NAT gateways, and external forwarding rules.
Cross-Region Load Balancing
Use your own IPs with Google Cloud Load Balancing for globally distributed traffic management with consistent IP reputation.
Google's Global Network Backbone
Your IP addresses are routed through Google's premium-tier network, benefiting from low-latency paths and extensive peering.
